Ask The Experts About Virtual Therapist

Jenny asks…

I need a professional to help me out?

I doubt ill be able to find any real professionals but this is urgent.
I am only 18 years old and have always prided myself on being able to help people but now im in a serious situation. (for the record i do not claim to be a professional nor do I claim to have any patients or to be a therapist in any way)
To sum things up, I have a “friend” who has become mentally ill. She has, in short, surrendered her mind to the virtual reality world of IMVU.com
I am practicing to become a psycologist and have many years of un professional experience in it but now I find myself unable to grasp what I should do for this woman. She has a 10 year old daughter who she neglects because she wishes to have a better life that can be provided by IMVU.
My theory and objective is to create an account and find her and bring her back to reality since she is dead from the real world. She has also neglected her own basic neccesities such as eating, sleeping, and bathing.
Long story short, shes bad.
However, my fear is that in tampering with her reality online by introducing myself as somone im not will throw her deeper into depression. I know how to work with minds so do not educate me of the dangers for I am fully aware, but I need a professional opinion on whether or not “playing to her game” will be the right decision.
In your own opinion, would this be something wise to do…
Thank you to any good answers.

Do not join her online that will only reinforce her staying online. Instead you have to do it the hard way and figure out something she will like better than being online and use that to get her off. If you know her well enough you should be able to think of something to lure her away for and afternoon. IMVU is apparently a virtual chat program and although I couldn’t say for sure she probably just needs to get out of the house and work on her self esteem to the point where she will probably realize actual socializes beats online.
If you succeed to this point I’d say all the other pieces will fall into place and she will take better care of herself and her child since It’s hard to be happy with yourself if you think your living conditions are poor and that your being irresponsible.
Whatever you do make sure NOT to insult her in how she spends her time or insult the program she uses. Positive reinforcement will work allot better here than negative so she can manage to have a good time where ever she goes she will will continue doing so with a little pushing at first.
